Developing Digital Media Literacy to Empower Indonesian Women

Abstract

This article explores the imperative of empowering Indonesian women through the enhancement of digital media literacy. Against the backdrop of Indonesia's evolving digital landscape, characterized by a surge in internet usage and smartphone adoption, addressing the gender gap in digital literacy becomes pivotal for advancing societal and economic development. The challenges faced by Indonesian women, rooted in social norms and limited access to education, are exacerbated by a lack of digital skills. This article outlines a comprehensive approach to empowerment, encompassing access to education, promotion of online safety, development of digital entrepreneurship skills, encouragement of critical thinking, and the fostering of a supportive online community. The benefits of such empowerment range from economic independence and increased civic engagement to challenging stereotypes and facilitating global connectivity. Ultimately, by bridging the digital gender gap, Indonesia can harness the transformative potential of its women, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society in the digital era.
